Annual Report 2008 - Text

Staffing Matters

I wish to thank my colleagues in the Office for their continuing support during 2008. In particular, I wish to thank the Director General, Pat Whelan and the Senior Investigators - Seán Garvey, Fintan Butler (up to September 2008) and Elizabeth Dolan (from September 2008) - for their contribution and also Marie O'Brien, Phyllis Flynn, the staff of my Office and the staff of the Communications and IT Units for their help in compiling this Report.

During 2008, my Office had a number of staff changes due to factors such as the implementation of a staff mobility policy and moves due to Government decentralisation policy. Fintan Butler, Senior Investigator, who has been with the OIC for almost ten years, moved on to new challenges in the Office of the Ombudsman. I am deeply grateful to Fintan for his tireless contribution to my Office and his dedication to the ideals of FOI. Cathal Duffy, Investigator, transferred to a Government Department and Frank Forde, Executive Officer and Catherine Rousset, Clerical Officer, also moved to the Office of the Ombudsman I take this opportunity to wish them well and to record my thanks for their work. I welcome Brian Murnane, Brenda Lynch, Anne Harwood, Bernie Kelly and Robert Cullen-Jones who joined the Office during the year.
