Annual Report 2008 - Text
Type of Requester
The majority of FOI requests continue to be made by ordinary members of the public or representative organisations (73%), while journalists (15%), businesses (6%), staff of public bodies (5%) and members of the Oireachtas (1%), make up the other categories of requester. These figures are broadly similar to previous years, with the exception of the percentage level of requests made by journalists, which at 15% has risen considerably from the figure of 8% in 2007. Again, it may be that headlines based on records sourced through FOI are evidence of greater use of the FOI Act by the media which is to be welcomed.
