01.05.2008 Launch of the Information Commissioner's Annual Report 2007
In her Annual Report for 2007, published today, the Information Commissioner, Emily O'Reilly, notes that 21st April 2008 marked the 10th Anniversary of Freedom of Information (FOI) legislation in Ireland. She also draws attention to the fact that, for the first time, records which relate to decisions of the Government, and that are more than 10 years old, are removed from the protection of section 19 of the FOI Act which had prevented their release (see note to Editors below for more information on the conditions now attaching to the release of such records). For both reasons, the Commissioner believes that there will be renewed interest in the FOI Act in the coming year.
